For my Unit 2 portfolio project in the Data Science program at Lambda School, I decided to move further out of my comfort zone. I chose to work with a Kaggle dataset compiled by Christoph Minixhofer. The aim of the Predict Droughts using Weather & Soil Data is to predict 6 levels of continental US drought levels using meteorological & soil data. The underlying data was gathered by the experts at the US Drought Monitor and the UN harmonized soil database.

For this litigation attorney on his way to becoming a data scientist (shoutout to Lambda School) the first significant portfolio project presented an interesting challenge. I could focus on something specifically legal such as court case outcomes or something similar. But I wanted to branch out of my comfort zone and analyze datasets that were largely unfamiliar.
